‘Jai Bhim’ - Disabled Conversation
‘Jai Bhim’ is one of
the recent Tamil films that speak sensible harsh politics. It can also be
considered as the first Tamil film to speak of the pain of the oppressed to
this extent. But the fair dialogue that ‘Jai Bhim’ was supposed to raise in the
Tamil film industry has reached a stalemate.
There does not seem to
be any legitimate reason for a political party to oppose the film so fiercely.
It does not seem appropriate for any writer who is in some way related to the
film to act as if the film were being set aside by the reactionary without
proper progressive reasons.
‘Jai Bhim’ can also be
referred to as a kind of biopic. The film is a biopic of a simple man, as
opposed to a biopic of leaders and eminent personalities of the community. The
film is also a biopic about Chandru, who was working as a lawyer, judge and currenly
now a social activist.
The crises that Chandru
faced as a lawyer can be understood from the crises that the film faced. It can
be understood from the protests against the film that the political parties in
Tamil Nadu are the reason for the non-release of political films in Tamil.
In recent times, films
depicting the struggles of the people of the Communist Party have not been
released for such a long time. It is also worth noting that despite some
hesitation in pointing to the film ‘Jai Bhim’ as a parallel to an elegant work
of art one cannot expect this much politically speaking artistry in a
commercial film.
There are no hero
worship songs in ‘Jai Bhim’. There are no punchy songs that make the heroines
dance in glamour costumes. No heroic adventures. The protagonist of the story
has no heroine. The film moves closer to reality through the most natural
depictions.
‘Jai Bhim’ is an important
film next to 'Visaranai' which exposes the grim face of state terrorism. Like
the film ‘Merku thodarchi malai’ where the pains and sufferings of the tribes
are recorded, the film also strongly depicts the life struggles of the tribes.
The film shows through
various visual layers that class is the caste of India and class difference is
the caste difference.
This is the film that
the protagonist not required a heroine, a song not required glamour, a hero not
required overdo image and so on Surya and Jyotika, who produced and Gnanavel
who directed the film are commentable.
