Tamil Cinema’s Musical Zenith M.S. Viswanathan
The mind has been full
of melody, dissolving and freezing in music lately. It makes me think of the
songs I have heard since then and listen to them over and over again. It’s like
flying in the sky while enjoying those memories and the songs that fly with the
memories. I am writing this column with the intention of recording a little of
those experiences.
M.S.V. is abbreviation
of the name M.S.Viswanathan. People born in the sixties, seventies, and
eighties who do not know M.S.V. cannot be. Since I was a child in my eighties I
have been attracting from M.S.V.. Familiarity with us. M.S.V.'s song would not
be complete without a special event.
Children who do not
sing the song "Naan Anaiyittal…" will not be seen then. “India nadu
en nadu Indian enbathu en peru" with such enthusiasm. There will be no
annual festivals without the songs "Nalla Perai Vanga Vendum Pillaigale"
and "Nalla Nalla Pillaigalai Nambi".
The song "Olimayamana
Ethirkalam" was also composed by M.S.V.. It is a song composed with
Ramamoorthy. The songs composed by Viswanathan and Ramamurthy are unforgettable
with time. The duo sang "Annan Ennada Thampi Ennada", "Ullathil
Nalla Ullam Urangathu Enpathu", and "Muntrezhuthil En Muchu Irukkum".
There are also songs by
Bharathiyar and Bharathidasan that the duo composed and featured on screen.
Bharathi's "Sindu Nathiyin Misai Nilavinile " and Bharathi Dasan's
"Tamilukum Amuthuthendru Per" are some of the songs that can be
mentioned.
The title of King of
Melody is so fitting for M.S.V.. He was like a king in the minds of the people.
After all, it was M.S.V.
who composed the music for our Tamil greetings. We are singing “Tamil Thai Vazhthu”
greetings on the stage where he composed the music in Mohana ragam.
The only match between
Kannadasan and M.S.V.. M.S.V. for Kannadasan lines. Can't figure out if
Kannadasan is putting music or adding lyrics to M.S.V.'s music. That’s how
music and lyrics mix and tie us together.
The wedding specials
that did not sing the song he composed, "Varay En Thozhi Varai" will
not be harmed. L.R. Eswari, who had been with the chorus body until then. That
song is wonderful. Click Here to listen that song.
The song "Malligai
En Mannan Mayangum" will mesmerize the listeners. It is said that Vani
Jayaram sang the first song in M.S.V.'s music. That song is so captivating to
this day.
Beyond all this, the
song "Allah Allah" in which his voice and his music for it will make
everyone forget religion and sing and listen.
He may be saying,
"Damn, damn," while singing another song in his voice, "Sollathan
Ninaikiren" Such an enchanting voice in that song beyond his music. I
think he gave himself music all the time for what he wanted to say in that
voice.
He also composed the
song "Ezhu Swarngalukkul Ethanai Padal". I have to tell him that he
proved that line of music with music.
The famous song "Manaivi
Amaivathellam Iraivan Kodutha Varam " was also composed by M.S.V.. It is a
song composed of music.
We can go on saying a
lot like this. He loved music without looking at money and lived only as a
musician. Many would say that he lived as a man unknown to the outside world
other than music. Although he is a genius in music, he is said to have lived
like a child. In that sense, the song he composed, "Kulathaiyum Theivamum
Gunathal Ondru" applies to him in unison. I have to say that as a child he
was the god of the music world as befits that song.
M.S.V.'s music cannot
be summed up in one column passage like this. This passage is like filming the
sky and the sea and not being able to capture the whole sky and the whole ocean
in it. You should take this passage just as I can see the sky and the sea I saw
in that picture. M.S.V.'s music is like the sky and the sea stretching beyond
the picture. You too can expand it a bit more when you record your experience
with M.S.V.’s music.
