Greeting our nature!

Greeting our nature!

Rainfall is good whether it is high, low or moderate. Tamil ethic laureate Valluvar calls the rain ‘Best of the sky’. Tamil poet Elangovadigal praises the rain as ‘Praising the rain’.

Once every ten years the climate changes differently. Thus if you face ten years with drought you have to face the next decade with floods.

Rainwater harvesting structures are a good solution for drought and flooding. It is not possible to say that rainwater harvesting structures are rainwater harvesting systems that are built from house to house with concrete and plastic pipes as we think. It's an attempt to advertise that we also save rainwater.

The real rainwater harvesting structures are the water bodies around us and their routes. Not occupying water levels and not blocking their paths is the enormous contribution we make to rainwater harvesting.

All we have to do to save rainwater on our own is not to build too much of concrete structures. Our concrete structures destroy the relationship between rain water and soil. They stagnate water and turn it into a floodplain. As many concrete structures as we need are enough.

There is no need to cement the floor to the floor so that the feet do not get muddy when walking around the house. That's where our fault begins. Structures we build with cement and concrete for clean feet go against rainwater harvesting.

No matter how much it rains we need it. Excessive rainfall threatens to turn into a floodplain as we have dismantled the structures for drainage. Ordinary rainwater flows like a river on city roads. Vehicles swim in the flood. Traffic completely collapsed at this time. Returning home from work is questionable.

There is also a notion that forecasting rain can alleviate some of the risks and disasters. Nothing can be predicted without any preconceived arrangements and systems.

We need to understand that no matter how much rain falls it is not a big problem. Because we need so much water. Our drinking water, our daily needs, our agricultural needs, our industrial needs all need so much water.

The benefit we will get from rainwater is immense if we have the proper structures to form and store rainwater. There is nothing new we need to do for that. Knowing the navel of the water is to find and retrieve the locations and routes of the river, pond, puddle, canal and lake that our ancestors designed.

Whether we do agriculture or not, it is our duty for generations to keep irrigation canals and drainage canals intact. The rain will always be admirable even if we do not do any soaking to the structure we have.

If we soak into our structure the rainwater will flood, the rainwater and sewer will be friendly, the roads will be drains, the apartments will be stagnant pools, and it will be difficult not only for us to return home when it rains.

There is a message we need to know. If we respect nature, nature will respect us. If it is not respected it will go on its course. We can not bear it. There is no other way but to get used to living with disasters every day. The decision is in our hands.
